When asked by the New York Times what she had been doing over the past year during Covid, she replied, “I practiced applied art, maybe agitprop, for the elections. Also, I indulged in ugly watercolors on formerly secret documents that I littered with filthy words. Women should swear more.”
Jenny Holzer (born July 29, 1950, in Hoosick, New York) is an American neo-conceptual artist who aesthetically and economically questions the role of institutions and their role in art concerning gender, race, and class.
Holzer’s work is inextricably linked to the public sphere. Advertising billboards, projections on buildings and other architectural structures, and illuminated electronic displays are among her large-scale installations.
This AT HOME ART DATE is a chance to display unpopular thoughts you don’t express because you don’t want to offend. Improvise and experiment in the safety of your own space.

(element three) EXPRESS what you are feeling now through the recycling of old essential papers. Find those old bank statements or tax documents that you’ve meant to shred and use whatever art supplies you have on hand, and put new words on the papers that give them a new meaning. Express feelings of frustration, anger, and grief. What do you need to get off your chest? It can be related to the document or not. Make it art. Please take a photo and send it to a friend or send it to me. I would love to see what you have created! Try always to share your art. If it is too private, shred away.
Finished? Congratulations. Well done, artist!
If you seek perfection, you will never reach completion.
