Annabel Onyango + Your Family Affair

AT HOME ART DATE | browse watch research + combine

“Being a fashion stylist is like an artist painting a canvas. The person or model is the blank canvas on which you can overlay your artistry. Stylists have a natural sense about shape, colour, texture, much like an artist.” -- Annabel Onyango

Biography from her website:

Annabel is a Fashion Consultant and Stylist living in Nairobi, Kenya.

With degrees in Environmental Studies (BA) and English Literature (MA), her unexpected career in fashion began as the Fashion Editor of some local lifestyle magazines. Her interest in fashion quickly superseded everything else, and now it's all that she does in her professional and personal time.

Her styling work ranges from magazine editorials and promotional events, to music videos and commercial production. Annabel is also a panelist on a TV show called "Fashion Watch" that attempts to curate the fashion choices of local celebrities and personalities; it's her hope that we play a small role in advancing the style choices of regular Kenyans on the street.

Her general style tends towards what's relevant and happening right here, right now on this continent. One of the best parts about what she does is working around the world and taking this African aesthetic to new places. Africa is a place that's alive and ridiculously dynamic. It's a place of massive interest. It's the last fashion frontier.
